Members of the Avolon team have been involved with ORBIS since 2002 and have seen first-hand the difference they make with their work, saving over 300,000 people in developing countries from unnecessary sight loss each year. Avolon would like to thank ORBIS, its co-sponsors and also guests for their support for the evening.
ORBIS provides the tools, training and technology necessary for local partners to assess their needs and develop workable and lasting solutions to the tragedy of unnecessary blindness. By building their long-term capabilities, ORBIS helps its partner institutions take action to reach a state where they can provide, on their own, quality eye care services that are affordable, accessible and sustainable.
Since 1982, ORBIS has treated more than 10 million people for blindness-related diseases and conditions in 87 countries. At the same time, ORBIS has been building up the local capacity of eye care institutions in the developing countries through comprehensive long-term development programs tailored to their specific needs. In addition to clinical training aboard the ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital and in local hospitals, ORBIS offers technical assistance in effective disease control, monitoring and evaluation, human resources and organizational development, infrastructure and technology, as well as community partnership.
